Hollywood blockbusters have become increasingly reliant on visual effects over the past few decades as recent advances in technology have made it possible to do the things that were considered impossible a few years ago.
More and more studios are using CGI in films, mostly because it's often cheaper than the alternative. In fact, many blockbusters are covered in so many digital layers that the original footage looks quite awkward and sometimes really funny without it. Imagine being that actor who has to completely use their imagination when it comes to their plain green surroundings, how do you even manage to stay in character?
