11-YEARS-OLD GIRL PLAYS DEAD TO SURVIVE THE BRUTAL ATTACK HER BROTHER COMMITTED ON THEIR FAMILY
In court, the 11-year-old survivor of the recent shooting in Washington State by a 15-year-old boy has voiced her opinions. Reports of a "disturbance with gunfire at a residential house" prompted police to respond to a residence in Fall City, Washington, on October 21.
They discovered three children and two adults dead when they got to the property, which was devastating. An 11-year-old girl was said to have injuries "on at least two parts of their body."
The victims were later identified as 42-year-old Mark Humiston, his wife Sarah, and their three children, ages seven, nine, and thirteen. Their 15-year-old son has been accused of being the shooter. CNN reports that the 11-year-old has now been heard in court. The 11-year-old girl spoke to investigators about the shooting, saying she heard gunshots outside her bedroom door when she woke up on Monday.
She noticed her brother, 9, lying in the hallway with blood in his mouth, and her father, who had blood on his head, when she looked out of her room.
According to court documents, the 11-year-old claimed to have witnessed her younger sister fall to the ground after hearing another gunshot and seeing her 7-year-old sister leave their shared bedroom. The 11-year-old then claimed that the gunman entered her bedroom and shot her twice, striking her neck and hand with one bullet. She "played dead" while he stood beside her.
She claimed to have identified the gun as her father's silver Glock handgun and the shooter as her brother, who is 15 years old. Authorities said that the child's mother and her brother, 13, had been shot and killed in another part of the house.
The 11-year-old talked about getting out of her room through a "fire window." She said she could hear him on the phone as well.
But seven minutes before this, the 15-year-old made his 911 call for assistance.
The 15-year-old allegedly killed himself after telling an operator that his 13-year-old brother had carried out the shooting, according to court documents. As a potential explanation for the shooting, the teenager told the operator that he was hiding in a bathroom and that his brother had been caught viewing porn the previous evening and was going to face serious consequences.
Five counts of aggravated murder and one count of attempted murder with a firearm enhancement were brought against the 15-year-old in juvenile court last week after he was taken into custody when police arrived at the residence. Fall City United Methodist Church at the time was the site of memorial services for many local community members.
"We are shocked and saddened by the tragic events that have resulted in the loss of a respected colleague, mentor, and friend, as well as the loss of immediate family members," Hargis Engineers told the Post in a statement to King 5.
"Mark’s leadership and vision were integral within our firm, and he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with his surviving family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time."
