WOMAN SHARES REACTION OF HER EX FUTURE HUSBAND AFTER SHE CONFRONTED HIM WITH MAJOR DISCOVERIES ON HIM
A woman who fell victim to a romance scam and ended up in debt of about £30,000 described how her soon-to-be husband responded when she began questioning his story. While working in a bar on the Isle of Wight in 2017, Megan Clarke was blown away by a dashing stranger who immediately showed his interest in her.
She began receiving expensive gifts and flowers at work from a man she knew as "Lord Bertie Underwood," who claimed to be a descendant of the person who invented the Underwood typewriter. She moved into his house within a month, and there were pictures of the typewriter all over the place. A few months later, during their first Christmas together, he proposed.
Megan's seemingly perfect romance began to fall apart just a few months before she was about to get married.
They began receiving letters that weren't addressed to Megan or "Lord Bertie," and when she inquired about their identities, he dismissed them by saying they were probably former residents. But after her suspicions were sparked, she made the sensible decision to investigate further, which resulted in the discovery of several bank cards registered under various names.
She revealed on the Channel 4 program Love Cheats that her future husband "changed instantly" in response to her questioning when she brought it up to him. She stated: "Bertie's attitude immediately changed when I questioned him about these cards.
After being persuaded by his response that something was amiss, Megan began searching Google for the names of the people this post was intended for—possibly former residents—and discovered numerous news stories about him committing fraud. Even worse, letters concerning loans taken out in Megan's name and credit card debt began to come in.
She hadn't seen him in person since the man she was going to marry assured her that he truly loved her and didn't intend for things to get this far. She uploaded his photo online and described what had happened to her in the hopes of warning others about this scammer. The post went viral, and Megan was flooded with people sharing their own stories.
'Bertie', whose real name was Robert Madejski, had slept with them, according to multiple men who contacted me.
Madejski escaped and has been on the run since 2022 when he was sentenced to five years in prison on additional fraud charges.
