TOM HOLLAND ELABORATES ON THE LIFE CHANGES HE IS EXPERIENCING AFTER HE QUITE DRINKING

Tom Holland decided to give up drinking two years ago and is now living a life free of alcohol.

After a "very, very, boozy December," the 28-year-old Spider-Man star discovered he had a problem with alcohol while performing "Dry Jan." Last year, he stated on Jay Shetty's podcast, "I just gave up for January, I wanted to do just dry January, and all I think about was taking a drink."

"I couldn't stop thinking about it. I was considering it as I woke up and looked at the clock, asking myself, "When is it 12?" And I was just frightened."

Holland has described his sobriety journey as "an amazing thing" and acknowledged that people's perceptions of drinking are changing. The actor told Rich Roll on his podcast, "I think it's great that you know, people shouldn't feel pressured to get wasted and drink for any other reason than being social."

He went on: "You don't have to give up anything; you can live this life with more meaning if you get rid of it. "Because I believe you're correct, people mistakenly believe that leading a sober life means giving up enjoyment, but this isn't the case.

You simply need to have the courage to try that step, and when you cross the finish line, you're like, 'Wow.'"

"When I realised that alcohol wasn't making my insecurity or bringing out my best self - it was actually doing the opposite," he said, reflecting on his past struggles with alcohol. "Oh, I can just be myself and I have nothing to be insecure about.

That's when I realised it started to get easier. I started to feel the benefit of not being tied to this drink. The more I let go and relaxed, the more I started to feel the benefits of enjoying the freedom from alcohol.

"I used to go to these parties and be like 'I can't speak to someone until I'm drunk. And now that I've kicked that and I've found replacements that make me feel like I'm part of the process without sacrificing my morning.”

"My next few days, has been so liberating."
