JIMMY FALLON PRANKS THE VOICE COACHES WITH HIS SINGING AUDITION
Comedian Jimmy Fallon is best known as the face of a late-night talk show, The Tonight Show. Some might not have realised that it has a musical side as well. He released studio recordings and performed alongside Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen, even going so far as to win a Grammy. Confident in his singing skills and talent for parody, Fallon decided to prank the coaches on the popular NBC television show The Voice.
The Voice host Carson Daly began the ruse by announcing that it was a surprise to the show's judges and the most significant performance in the life of an unnamed artist. Like all members, Fallon auditioned blindly for four coaches - his friends Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson, and new coaches Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper. The Tonight Show host decided to sing Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgetting (Every Time You're Around)". The choice of song and style left the coaches stunned from the moment he started singing.
Coaches of the "Voice" listen to the participant, whose back is turned to her. If they like what they hear, they press a button and turn their chair to see the singer. Clarkson was the first to press the button to come face-to-face with the mystery member. She burst out laughing when she saw Fallon. Chance and Horan did the same, reacting hilariously to Fallon's hilarious performance. Shelton, who recognised who was singing after hearing his voice, refused to hang out at his friend's. This inspired Fallon to push Shelton's button himself. "You can not!" Shelton told him jokingly. - You broke the rules.
Fallon goes on to explain how he got there; It was meant to pay tribute to Shelton for leaving the show after a few years. "I wrote to Carson [Daly] and said I had to come. Season 23 - you're a legend." In turn, Shelton revealed that he knew straight away it was all a hoax. "I was like, 'I know what's going on. There's no way I'm going to push the button,'" said the veteran Coach: "I knew right away it was you.
For her part, Clarkson revealed that she immediately turned her back on bringing Fallon on her team. Fallon replied that he was on Kelly's team and agreed to the selection as if he were a regular member. "Thank you for turning away."
