WHY PEOPLE ARE ADDING SALT TO THEIR CUP OF COFFEE
Everyone has their own preference when it comes to making their cup of coffee. While some people add milk or cream and sugar to their drink, others prefer to keep it black.
However, it appears there is a third option which eliminates all the bitterness of coffee. Twitter user BirdRespecter shared a fun trick that adding salt (instead of sugar) to coffee can eliminate the bitter taste. While this tip isn't exactly new, it's not as well known as it should be. "Works great, especially on cheap devices," adds BirdRespecter. All you have to do is add a pinch of salt to a cup of black coffee, stir and taste. Suddenly, the brew tastes a lot better without much effort.
A tiny pinch of salt in black coffee removes the bitterness almost entirely. I thought this was common knowledge until my coworker looked at me like I had horns for doing this the other day https://t.co/F2M64KC7OY

There is a scientific explanation for why this crazy method is working. James Hoffman, YouTuber and barista explained, "Your tongue has a set of taste buds... and they normally detect sodium ions passing through the membrane and you taste salty. However, you also experience some synergy effects. Typically, for example, saltiness can enhance sweetness and mitigate or reduce bitterness."
Although adding salt can greatly enhance the coffee experience, it should be used in moderation. People with high blood pressure or other health conditions should consult their doctor before trying anything new.
