BEAUTIFUL FOOTAGE OF THE DEEP SEA GLASS SQUID
The sea is full of mysterious creatures. Some are as majestic as whales, while others are described as hypnotically beautiful. For example, take a look at this photo of a glass squid published by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This creature was discovered off the coast of Alaska's Semidi Islands and surprised marine scientists because of its transparency. The white watermelon, or Taonius Borealis, lives in the mesopelagic or twilight zone, which extends from about 650 feet to 3,300 feet above the earth's surface. Only 1% of the light reaches this area, so it's mostly dark and allows bioluminescent organisms like the glass squid to actually glow.
