The French company Vaonis, which specialises in innovative telescopes, is making observing space phenomena easier than ever. After launching several successful products, they have developed a way to safely observe the universe by turning your smartphone into a telescope. Available now on Kickstarter, Hestia combines the power of a mobile phone with the latest technology to observe the Moon, Sun and Stars without requiring any special astronomy skills. Best of all, Vaonis ensures that Hestia is sent to North American supporters before the eclipse, so they can follow the event directly on their mobile phones. Hestia weighs only 1 lb and is small enough to fit in your backpack.
This allows you to easily observe the starry sky even when you are away from home. But how does it work? Hestia features a patented 6-lens optical design with a 30mm light and prism that collects and focuses light directly onto your smartphone's camera sensor. This allows you to increase the magnification of any smartphone to 25x and the sharpness to 5x that of hers.
