So, what happened to the regular names like Anne or Sarah? It's one thing being extravagant and having a long name – but when did we start naming children after objects, countries and abstract concepts?
It seems that the most common names these days exist around a compass, and now Cardi B has joined the world of weird baby names too when she announced that her child, who was born on Tuesday, will be named Kulture Kiari Cephus. With parents named Belcalis Almanzar (Cardi B) and Kiari Kendrell Cephus (Offset), anything less extravagant simply wouldn't fit into the family.
But Cardi B and Offset didn't name their baby girl Kulture so that she could obnoxiously reply to people, "That's culture with a K" when she is older but she was actually named after Offset's band's recent albums, "Culture 1" and "Culture 2". Since Offset has two K's in his initials, the couple decided that their daughter would have the same initials, KKC and even Cardi B tweeted after announcing her name that "anything else woulda been basic Okrrrrr!"
Cardi B had been very quiet about the details of her marriage as well as her daughter's name even though the couple knew what they wanted to call her months in advance. On The Ellen Degeneres Show in April, Cardi admitted that Offset had come up with the name. However, the two have become pro's at keeping secrets they kept their marriage secret for a month last year and when Offset proposed to Cardi B on stage in October 2017, TMZ managed to dig up their marriage certificate, exposing that they had actually been married since September.
Cardi B responded by saying that their decision to get married was spontaneous and that the ceremony happened without a ring or a dress and with only one witness present. Cardi B then posted to her Twitter account saying, "There are so many moments that I share with the world and then there are moments that I want to keep for myself! Getting married was one of those moments! Our relationship was so new breaking up and making up and we had a lot of growing up to do but we were so in love we didn't want to lose each other, was one morning in September we woke up and decided to get married."
Although Cardi B announced her babies name with beautiful maternity pictures, the couple has not shown their baby girl to the world yet. But, with a name like Kulture, we are sure she will inherit her mother's wacky personality to fit the name!
