Jim Carrey: "I needed colour"
When we think of Jim Carrey, we think of the hilarious comedy star that starred in movies like Dumb and Dumber, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Mask, Bruce Almighty and many other movies that have left us in love with Carrey's hilarious characters!
However, recently, Carrey has been a bit of a recluse when it comes to the big screen. Although he has appeared in a few films, he has definitely swept himself off the radar – often refusing to support certain films.
But, if Jim Carrey is seen as the best actor in the comedy genre, everyone has started to wonder – what has Jim Carrey been up to?
Well, we have the answer. And it's pretty amazing!
The answer is revealed in Jim Carrey's documentary 'I Needed Color' – a six-minute documentary that has quickly gone viral in the last two weeks – where he reveals a side of him we have never seen before.
In the documentary we see Carrey hard at work in his art studio, creating artwork that speaks of vulnerability, struggle and emotion. It goes with his opening line, "What you do in life chooses you."
The artworks featured in the documentary are jaw-dropping and beautiful, it's a pity we haven't seen this side of his talent before! He expresses how his different artworks show his struggles, his dreams, his past and everything that had made him who he is today.
According to Carrey, he first started painting six years ago as a way to "heal a broken heart."
"I think what makes someone an artist is they make models of their inner life," Carrey says in the video. "They make something come into physical being that is inspired by their emotions or their needs or what they feel the audience needs."
The documentary is narrated by Carrey himself and gives us a very personal view of his world and what it includes at this point in his life.
We are given a tour of his studio and, best of all, a full look at his incredible artworks. The multiple skills, talents and achievements that encompass Jim Carrey are an inspiration to us all. The art is so sad – but so beautiful in its sadness. The emotions in the paintings come from Carrey and filter through the painting right to the audience.
