VIDEO: RAPPER XXXTENTACOIN SHOT DEAD IN HIS CAR

Updated: 25/6/2018

20-year-old rapper, XXXtentacoin, has been pronounced dead after suffering gunshot wounds. XXXtentacoin, whose real name is Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, was looking at some of the inventory at RIVA Motorsports, a Deerfield Beach motorcycle dealership. As he was leaving, heading towards his black BMW i8, two armed men advanced on him with at least one of the men firing shots before escaping the scene in a dark SUV.

A 29-year-old mother, Stephanie Martinez, happened to be in the area and rushed up to Onfroy's vehicle after hearing the shots. She said: "He has his mouth open and his hand out. Two people went over and checked his pulse. It's just weird because he should've had security and stuff with him."

The police can find no motive for the attack and reported that the two suspects were black males wearing hoodies, the shooter was wearing a red mask who escaped the scene in a black Dodge Journey, with dark tint and black wheels. Police also reported that a Louis Vuitton bag was stolen from the vehicle. When emergency services arrived on the scene, they classified Onfroy as "comatose" as they rushed him to a Fort Lauderdale-area hospital. New developments in the investigation revealed that the suspects had tracked XXXTentacoin's movements before they attacked and shot him.

According to court documents, CCTV footage showed two men, one in orange sandals, following XXXTentacion into the motorbike dealership, where they bought the red mask. Footage handed over to the detectives working on the case shows two men climbing out of a dark SUV and following the rapper into Riva Motorsports in Deerfield Beach at 3.30pm on Monday. One of the men was wearing a white tank top and wearing bright orange sandals, bought a mask from the dealership’s parts department, reported detective John Curcio of the Broward Sheriff’s Office in a sworn court statement obtained by the New York Times.

The men then left the store and moved their vehicle to the entrance of the car park. WhenXXXTentacoin tried to drive away in his BMW, the suspects – who were then masked and armed – stepped out of their car and “demanded property after a brief struggle, the victim is shot,” DetCurcio added. XXXTentacion's attorney, David Bogenschutz, said investigators told him the rapper had visited a bank before the shooting to possibly withdraw cash to buy a motorbike. He said the detectives have ruled XXXTentacoin the victim of a "random robbery".

The rapper was involved in a couple of minor feuds, as many rappers are, but none appeared to threaten his safety. However, he had been fighting a legal battle over a case of domestic violence filed by his pregnant girlfriend as well as a couple of felony charges which put him under house arrest. The judge had recently suspended his house arrest sentence to allow him to tour. Last year he was attacked by a group of men in L.A. and initially thought Migos was behind it. He later apologised to them, but he said that the incident did not scare him enough to increase his security detail.

Although brief, his music career was successful, gathering millions of hits on YouTube. His single, titled "SAD!", got over 173 million views and 270 million streams on Spotify, hitting the Top 50 Charts.

When the news of his death hit the media, fellow artists expressed their sadness over social media. Kanye West posted: "rest in peace ... I never told you how much you inspired me when you were here thank you for existing." Producer Diplo posted a photo of them together and said, "Thanks for inspiring me." Travis Barker tweeted: "I'm at a loss for words... speechless #RIPXXXTentacion Loved collaborating with you. You were a true artist ..."

Although the police are still doing investigations into the motives behind the shooting and finding the attackers, some progress has been made leading to the arrest of Dedrick Devonshay Williams, of Pompano Beach, on Wednesday and charged him with the rapper’s first-degree murder. Police said they were lead to Williams by a social media picture of a tattoo artist, wearing “the same or similar bright orange sandals” as XXXTentacoin's killer on his Instagram page. Riva Motorsports staff also identified him from photographs. No other arrests have been made and while the investigation remains ongoing, the young artist will always be remembered for his musical talents and inspiration and a final gift to his family as his girlfriend (who is still anonymous to the public) revealed that she was pregnant with his baby on Friday. XXXTentacoin's mother, Cleopatra Bernard confirmed this announcement when she posted a picture of the ultrasound captioned: “He left us a final gift.”

New footage has surfaced, surveillance footage of the rapper getting shot in his car.
