VIDEO: THE SUICIDE PREVENTION OF LOGAN PAUL'S CAREER

The internet exploded earlier in January as there was a massive outcry against Logan Paul who uploaded an incredibly insensitive video after stumbling upon a body in the Suicide Forest. The negative backlash he received ruined his Youtube career, and, after attempting to deal with the backlash himself, his efforts seemed futile.

Since then, he has changed the angle of his reparation process, releasing a 7-minute video promoting suicide prevention. He has vowed to better understand suicide and the damage a person endures to push themselves in that position. Despite his previously poor judgement, the large following and controversy behind his name could actually put him in a better position to give suicide prevention more publicity.

His recent video has been viewed over 1 million times already in which he announced a $1 million donation to suicide prevention charities. Paul released a statement after the backlash of the original video stating that he didn't know it would cause this much damage and offend so many people. This means that Paul will have to tread very lightly on the thin ice he has created for himself, wanting to avoid a stigma against mental illness and suicide in the pop culture spotlight as this could lead to an increase in suicide attempts.

A lot of attention has been directed towards these issues in the last couple of years in an attempt to break the stigma. A campaign called "Seize the Awkward" was launched by the Jed Foundation (JED), the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and the Ad Council to raise awareness along with Hannah Hart, Liza Koshy and Remi Cruz. Their videos have been viewed 100 000 times, disappointingly less than the attention Paul has been attracted.

Despite a good start, people are questioning the motive behind these video's and whether this is being done due to genuine concern and wanting to make a difference or simply to profit off the attention.

The attention should be on saving lives in any way possible, not just when Youtube stars get involved.
