ARTIST DRAWS FUNNY 'BEFORE AND AFTER' ILLUSTRATIONS RELATABLE TO EVERYDAY LIFE
We all have gone through challenges and experienced some of the same things. Think about going to the hairdresser to get a trim and walking out with a buzz cut or skipping our morning coffee and feeling our energy levels take a dump. This is something we all can relate to and even share a laugh about.
That is what Barcelona-based cartoon artist Nacho Diaz Arjona (aka Naolito) cleverly illustrates in his series of relatable scenarios of before and after illustrations.
The artist's cute cartoon drawings personify food, nature, and other ordinary objects, injecting some humour into those awkward daily moments.
He has a method to creating his hilarious relatable comics. First, Naolito uses a drawing tablet and Photoshop to sketch out countless ideas. Later, he goes back to his drawings to see if he still finds them funny. And then refines them into finished illustrations to share with the world.
There are a lot of things in the world people can relate to. For example, the feeling of accomplishment after a hard workout. Or the joy of receiving your salary at the end of the month. With this, we all can relate to some of the demanding and joyful things in the world.
Naolito explains, "I enjoy looking for similarities between people and objects, animals, and food. I think it's a really interesting way to represent ideas."
Naolito is able to exaggerate each relatable emotional shift by using everyday objects. To give an example, "before college" is illustrated as a jovial, bright-eyed Game Boy, while "after college" is depicted as a weary, debt-totalling calculator.
Another example of an everyday situation is feeling a bit old. Naolito draws a fresh banana "before kids starts calling you sir or madam", and a rotten banana "after kids starts calling you sir or madam", which we all can certainly relate to.
