BRONZE AGE COUPLE LOVINGLY EMBRACING EACH OTHER DISCOVERED AFTER 3000 YEARS
Many couples have an eternal dream of being together, which typically extends to their last resting place. A couple from the late Bronze Age have been found in Ukraine's Petrykiv village, ensnared in a loving embrace for 3,000 years. While his partner wraps her arms around his neck and presses her body against his side, the man's skeleton lies flat on the ground.
The two were descended from the ancient Vysotskaya culture, which flourished in what is now western Ukraine. Archaeologists surmise that the woman was buried alive with her partner because of the naturalness of her position.
Professor Mykola Bandrivsky, director of the Transcarpathian branch of the Rescue Archaeological Service of the Institute of Archeology of Ukraine, says “From our point of view, this woman did it voluntarily. Maybe the woman did not want to live with some other man and get used to some new way of life. So, she preferred to pass away with her husband.
An illustration depicts the couple's appearance at the time of their passing. Like most burials from this era, both were adorned with bronze decorations and interred with ceramic artifacts. According to Dr. Brandrovsky, "people in the Late Bronze Age believed in the eternal life of the human soul."
We assume that the woman's attempt to remain with her beloved and her own desires were the only factors that led her to make such a decision. For example, she might have drank a poisoned goblet to make her marriage to her husband simple and painless.
