THE AMERICAN LANGUAGE – LESSONS FROM A (BRITISH) COMEDIAN
Michael McIntyre, a well known British comedian, is known for his literal humor and often pokes fun at people. He likes to express his humor via observations he makes about people in their every day lives.
In this particular instance, he starts off by teasing Americans and the way that they have changed British English to suit them. For instance, from bin to waste paper basket: "Waste paper basket because they needed to know what type of paper to throw away".
Another hilarious example includes: "Pavement to sidewalk? Apparently they need direction on where to walk because they kept walking on the road and kept getting hit by cars".
He claims it needs to be more literal so they can understand it better.
Although he is only teasing, you better know the context of asking someone in the office for a rubber!
