AUTHOR GETS CREATIVE WITH HIS CPAP MASK AND TURNS IT INTO AN ALIEN FACEHUGGER
Jared Grey, a sci-fi author and self-described Tinker Gnome, decided to combine his love for science fiction with the inconvenience of sleep apnea. This sleeping disorder requires Jared to wear a CPAP mask while sleeping to help him breathe.
However it not the most attractive contraption and according to Grey it can best be described as a “torture machine” that causes discomfort.
But being a sci-fi fan and being creative, Grey quickly managed to connect the dots from his passion for sci-fi and the how the wearing of his mask almost feels receiving a hug from an alien facehugger from the Alien movie. So using that brilliant connection, Grey decided to turn his ‘torture machine’ into a CPAP Facehugger which he personalised and created himself.
He used a life-size facehugger foam replica and attached his CPAP mask inside it.
Gray described the entire process step-by-step on his site. But what’s even more mind-blowing is that Gray had prophesied doing this very thing for years.
“I’ve been joking for years that if I ever ended up needing a CPAP mask, I’d incorporate it into a facehugger. Because obviously. …I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea, and now have my own CPAP torture machine. Seriously, these things are awful and create as much discomfort as they prevent. So I may as well have some fun with this thing while it’s intruding on my life.”
