DELIVERY ROBOT “LOST IN THE WOODS” SPARKS UP IMAGINATION ONLINE
When we imagine robots, we usually tend to think of them in urban city areas. However, one robot proved that wrong when he was found in the middle of the woods. A man named Matthew McCormack, found a white delivery robot driving down a trail in Lings Wood Nature Reserve in Northampton, England.
The professor explained, “On my bike ride this morning, saw a delivery robot lost in the woods.” The photo of the white delivery robot soon captured the hearts and imaginations of thousands of people online. “The reaction to it has been uniformly sweet. Everyone’s saying, ‘Oh, you know, Pixar should make a film,' or that it’s kind of like WALL-E or something. People are really kind of empathising with this robot and saying that it’s making a bid for freedom or something like that.”
However, it appears that the solitary robot was more at home in the idyllic environment than people thought. It was revealed that the autonomous delivery robots belongs to Starship Technologies, a San Francisco-based company with a location in the Northampton area of the UK. The vice president of marketing for Starship, Henry Harris-Burland, confirmed that the robot was on his way to deliver groceries to a customer. “Our robots can traverse a variety of terrain and take the safest and most efficient route possible on every one of the 10,000–15,000 autonomous deliveries they complete daily. In this case, that route happened to be a paved path through a wooded area in Northampton, UK,” Harris-Burland writes.
