THE SPOOKY HISTORY OF THE HAUNTED ISLAND OF DOLLS IN MEXICO
Have you heard of the spooky Island of the Dolls which is located just south of the Mexico City centre? This piece of land is covered in thousands of dolls and contains a somewhat heartfelt and scary story.
Guinness World Records shared the spooky history behind the legendary La Isla de las Muñecas (Island of the Dolls) in the channels of Xochimilco. A man named Don Julián Santana Barrera, is the creator of this spooky location which was his way to pay tribute to a girl who had drowned in the area. After claiming that he heard the little girl ask for her doll, he started bringing dolls to the location.
“The former owner of the island Julián Santana Barrera placed these dolls around the island for a very particular reason, and visitors to this day are said to take an offering before venturing onto its shores.”
However, after Barrera drowned at the same spot as the little girl to whom he brought the dolls as a tribute, the island was vacated. Since then the dolls remained behind and are to the day considered to be haunted. These dolls now hold a Guinness World Record. “This is the world’s largest collection of haunted dolls there are thousands of creepy mutilated and decapitated dolls covered in cobwebs and insects and they’re found on Mexico’s Island of the Dolls or La Isla de las Muñicas. Some Guinness World Records titles have backstories that are just so compelling we have to share it.”
