VIDEO: ROCKING ON – THE MINI VERSION!
Remember those annoying toys you used to buy your niece or your friend's child, or even cursed the people that bought your own child the wretched toys? Apparently, there is a possibility, albeit a very small one, that such toys could be more than a deafening plonking sound.
A trio of talented French men created a band called The Wackids who use an otamatone toy, a Spiderman drum set and a mini electric guitar hooked up to the tiniest amp. They use these child-sized instruments to do covers on rock songs including Enter Sandman by Metallica and Back in Black by AC/DC. The band started as buskers in the streets of Bordeaux and drew more attention when they performed using toy instruments and have been for the last 15 years.
The band explained to the public: “Basically we play only very famous rock covers to sort of educate kids about rock ‘n’ roll,” said the band. “All our instruments are either real instruments for kids or just toys. Playing them isn’t hard, it’s like playing the ukulele, for example, you just get used to it.” Their creativity has earned them instant fame and it's easy to see why they have such a diverse fan base.
