LOST ROOSTER MAKES POPEYES HIS NEW RESIDENCE AFTER HURRICANE
Popeyes in South Louisiana recently became the new favourite place of very unusual target market. A traveling nurse Latoya Giles had the pleasure of witnessing it herself. While she was waiting in the drive-thru the unusual visitor cut in line. It was a rooster. He crossed in front of her car and continued walking to the front of the restaurant.
But before she saw it for herself, Giles heard several rumours from colleagues who work with her at the hospital across the street about the lost rooster. But it wasn’t easy to believe that a live rooster had taken up residence in the Slidell Popeyes parking, until you actually see it for yourself.
“As I was coming to the drive-thru window, the rooster walks in front of my car, so I stepped on my break. Then he went to the door, and he just stood there like he was looking in.”
Giles knew that the people she was going to tell is not going to believe it without seeing the proof. While waiting in the drive-thru she started snapping photos of the rooster as he stood at the restaurant entrance, desperately waiting for someone to open the door.
As Giles drove out of the Popeyes parking lot, she noticed something else strange — a chicken coop.
Popeyes employees explained that the mysterious rooster showed up at the restaurant shortly after the Hurricane Ida back in September, and has refused to leave ever since. The staff first tried to locate a possible owner and family, but after nobody in the neighbourhood claimed him, they decided that he would be a great addition to the Popeye family. The staff lovingly adopted him and named him Rocco.
Rocco has since become the new mascot for the branch and he clearly enjoys his job. He is also getting fed regularly by the employees and receives a lot of care and love. The staff has even built him his own coop where he can safely stay and feel home. Rocco may have chosen an unlikely family, but he seems to be quite content.
“He’s beautiful and healthy. They’re definitely taking good care of him.”
Rocco is now strutting around the parking lot which has become his domain. Rocco surely has the magic touch and has clearly chosen the right place as his popularity has kept growing since. “Business has definitely improved. Everyone wants to see the chicken.”
