WILD KITTEN RESCUED BY BOAT IN DEEP WATERS

One morning, while a group of students who live on an island in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, were making their way to school by boat,   something very strange caught their eyes. Almost in the middle of the deep waters, far away from shore, was a poor kitten in distress. Once the group of school children spotted the distressed kitten,  they immediately urged the boat captain Jean Claude Mendes.  Mendes decided to act and circled the boat around to take a better look. Getting closer, the captain and his young passengers identified the little distressed animal as a wild kitten which is believed to be an ocelot. The poor kitten became stranded in the water between the island and the mainland.

The tiny ocelot immediately began swimming towards the boat once it came to a stop. Almost reaching the boat, Mendes was able to scoop her to safety. “She was swimming desperately," Mendes said and added, "It was really nice to rescue her with the help of the kids, who helped hold the paddle.”

Once the kitten was safely aboard, Mendes and his passengers carried the ocelot kitten to dry land. Fortunately for the baby ocelot, her mother was waiting on shore. Authorities have since been monitoring the location in the meantime to be sure no other poor kittens or animals are in distress like this little ocelot kitten. Sergeant Augusto of the Environmental Police said of the rescue, “The region is the species' natural habitat and, as it was not injured, returning it in the same direction was important.”
