WHAT SUPERHEROES WOULD HAVE LOOKED LIKE IN THE 16TH CENTURY
Superhero’s have mostly been connected and displayed in the more modern era, but have you ever wonder if they existed or was even a subject in the late era’s such as the 16th century? What if the famous Hulk was displayed or illustrated in stories as a Duke? Or Spiderman as the Royal Guard?
Photographer Sacha Goldberger had the exact same questions and thoughts and decided to create a very playful series called Super Flemish.
Some of our favourite superhero characters such as Wonder Woman, Cat Woman, Hulk, Captain America and many more, got the Flemish treatment as photos of them resembled 16th century paintings.
It took a total of two year for Goldberger to complete the whole project. Twelve people were also involved in the making going through make-up, hair and special effects. Five costume designers made outfits specifically for this occasion. “Lots of the job was done before and during the shoot. Pierrick and Sebastian, my digital retouchers, helped me to get the precision and the perfection I was looking for in this series.”
Even thought this project took a lot of time, hard work and dedication, for Goldberger it was a lot of fun. “All of it was incredible, it was like a dream come true. When you see the Hulk in front of you and you ask him to look romantic, it's crazy. The Joker was also very impressive. He endured three hours of make-up and started to act like Heath Ledger in the movie, The Dark Knight.”
